Financial Mechanisms

About the programe the Green Development Fund for the SICA region supports the consolidation and integration of financing, implementation and monitoring mechanisms at the regional level and provides resources to finance ecosystem restoration projects in prioritized landscapes. In this way investments will be channeled through climate and emerging environmental financing mechanisms in SICA countries in order to strengthen sustainable environmental financing structures in the region.

Local Investment and Piloting of Financial Mechanisms for Restoration

The local investment component of the program seeks to increase public-private investment in ecosystem restoration activities at the landscape level by allocating additional resources to financial mechanisms that encourage active participation and co-investment through multi-stakeholder partnerships in activities that demonstrate improved ecosystem services (water, carbon and biodiversity),
With investment projects, financial mechanisms strengthen and demonstrate their operational capacities through practice in the areas of project planning, financial management, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

Laying the Foundations for a Regional Financial Mechanism
Regional integration and coordination is a comparative advantage of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD) regarding the climate-environmental financing architecture at the global level that requires regional financing structures of sufficient volume, scope and capacity to link territories to financing opportunities.

National governmental and non-governmental financial institutions that manage and operate financial mechanisms for ecosystem and landscape restoration are key actors

within "national restoration systems"; the program contributes to the coordination and cooperation between climate-environmental financing entities and national and regional institutions with the vision of creating an integrated regional financing mechanism for SICA landscape restoration.

Therefore, the Green Development Fund promotes a regional coordination process for the formulation and management of investment projects in landscape restoration prioritized in the region within the CCAD framework

Finally, we promote technical and political exchange, through a regional platform of knowledge management; and, we provide countries with a space to share experiences and lessons learned to socialize and position the success of their activities at the regional and international level.
