San Salvador, October 31, 2018. The Green Development Fund for the SICA region supports the management processes for a sustainable management of natural resources in El Salvador.
The territory being served corresponds to the southern sector of Ahuachapán, in the mangrove area of Garita Palmera, where the general characteristics of the ecosystem of the area and its main drivers of degradation were presented. These actions will allow the socialization of local governance mechanisms over the natural resources of the territory.
In this meeting participate community development associations, NGOs, environmental units of some municipalities and others interested in the conservation and restoration of the environment. The activity is organized by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador with the technical and financial support of the Green Development Fund for the SICA region.
About the Green Development Fund for the SICA region Program
The Program is implemented within the framework of cooperation between the European Union (EU), the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMU) and the Central American Integration System (SICA), contributing to the region's adaptation to the effects of climate change. This fund is administered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in coordination with the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), and will allow the expansion of activities of the CCAD REDD+ Landscape program.
On that basis, the Green Development Fund for the SICA region supports the consolidation and integration of financing, implementation and monitoring mechanisms at the regional level and provides resources to finance ecosystem restoration projects in prioritized landscapes.
